Our Team Pledges to Support

The Pacifica Mission:  to educate and give voice to the people who are demanding an End to ICE, Stop Genocide in Palestine, Stop Funding Imperial Wars, Defend LGBTQIA+ Rights, Equal Voting Rights, Disability Rights, and a Woman’s Right to Choose

Sanctuary:  Create a haven and a platform for radical, activist journalists who are on the frontlines in the fight against fascism

Restoration of our legitimate, hard-won democratic Bylaws with ranked choice voting and a seat on the national board for programmers at each of the 5 stations

Fact-based surveys of diversity, equity & inclusion at all 5 stations: programming, staff, management and boards — so we can fulfill our Mission

– Community- and audience-building with “Go Local Radio!” Be the first stations people turn to for Local News ignored by corporate media.  Be the place for local stories, songs, and radio theater — it’s in the Pacifica Mission Statement!

Radical Metamorphosis: Create an Emergency Response Team  to catapult the network into the next generation of media.  Hire a young, bilingual media specialist who can organize the talent of over 800 programmers into an accessible, analog/digital powerhouse. Prioritize young programmers to attract young audiences. Create training programs and paid internships for youth.

More Spanish language programming for the fastest-growing population of radio listeners in the country—listeners hungry for pro-immigrant, progressive media

– Financial hygiene: Hire a CFO! (It’s an FCC rule).  Open books and financial transparency.  Bring audits up to date.  Restore financial oversight by your Local Station Boards–boards now rendered powerless by the new bylaws.

Give back the Power! In addition to financial oversight, your local board needs the power to evaluate applicants for, and the performance of the General manager and Program Director; and to have a Programming Committee, powers removed by the current bylaws

Open door, in-person Town Halls in the community where people can meet fellow listeners, programmers, and their Local Station Board.  Free refreshments.

Free Speech at board meetings:  an end to “muting” and removal to the “Waiting Room” of fellow board members to squelch dissent.  Guaranteed open Public Comment time for all listeners–not just pre-selected speakers

Accessibility Beyond the ADA:  We foresee an accessible network in programming, websites, digital media, and elections.

NO Ivory Tower:  We pledge to serve our diverse communities and to always be accessible.  To publicize all public meetings and encourage participation in “Whose station? OUR station!”
