DISCLAIMER: This is not an official Pacifica Foundation, Inc.  website nor an official website of any of the five Pacifica Foundation, Inc. Radio Stations (KPFA Radio, KPFK Radio, KPFT Radio, WBAI Radio, WPFW Radio). Opinions and facts alleged on this site belong to the author(s) of the website only and should NOT be assumed to be true or to reflect the editorial stance or policy of the Pacifica Foundation, Inc., or any of the five Radio Stations (KPFA Radio, KPFK Radio, KPFT Radio, WBAI Radio, WPFW Radio), or the opinions of its management, Pacifica National Board, station staff, or other listener members.

Members have been disenfranchised by the new system in the opinion of many, and they feel its implementation is even worse.

Many of the PMC candidates shown below will NOT appear on your ballot due, in our opinion, to violations of their free speech rights, a dysfunctional nomination process, and misguided enforcement of the regulations, unless we together can convince the responsible parties at Pacifica to reverse themselves.

We believe there was insufficient preparation and notice, and insufficient education of listeners and other members about the nomination and election process, either on the air or on the station websites.

The nomination website was confusing according to multiple reports, and showed the names of people who were not running and could not run for the positions they were listed under; other candidates were listed for positions they were not running for.

The National Election Supervisor has acknowledged that 5600 emails from Pacifica to members bounced — that’s more than 20% of the members. More than 2000 members who did not receive or could not find their access link requested links, some so late that they could not exercise their right to nominate.

Many people were unable to nominate candidates for many reasons, and other candidates who obtained sufficient nominations were disqualified for exercising their free speech rights in a non-Pacifica context. As a result, only one station has a choice for the listener rep on the PNB. Two stations have no candidate at all for that critical position, denying their members any right to choose their representatives.

We insist on an extension of the nomination period, and that the improper disqualifications be reversed, so that those who were unable to nominate, or whose nominations were wasted for any reason,  will be able to do so and we will have candidates for each position at every station.  We urge you to do the same to defend your rights and those of other members.

There is sufficient time prior to the August election to extend nominations for all open positions at any stations so that members at the station can have a direct say in the election of their representatives.
